🔥 Inyoni Umlilo — A Poem for the Phoenix Within

From the hush before dawn,

when clay still remembers the river

and glass still dreams of sand,

a whisper rises — feathered, molten, alive.

I watched the Phoenix breathe.

Not in myth, but in the quiet truth of the kiln,

where flame does not devour

but transforms.

It taught me that creation is a burning,

a surrender to heat,

a willingness to be reshaped

until the hidden form reveals itself.

Pottery curls from the fire like a newborn wing,

warm glass stretches into light

as if recalling its first sunrise.

Both rise from the blaze

not ruined, but reborn.

So I gathered its lesson in my hands:

that art is an ember carried carefully,

that beauty is a creature of courage,

that every vessel, every curve of glass

is a small resurrection.

And from that sacred furnace,

my Inyoni took flight —

a bird of flame,

a story of becoming,

a testament that from fire

we do not fall

we rise.
